So yeah I'm in Modena now, the home of the Ferrari and the Maserati. Cool facts, our apartment is 5 seconds away from the home of founder of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari. There's a museum and everything in the house now but it's super cool. Then 2 minutes away in bike, there is the Maserati Factory and museum. Then a 30 minute bus ride away there is a place you can test drive a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and other sports cars for like 250$ each... But as far as I know, we as missionaries aren't allowed to. But I've never asked. But I'm not gonna waste the money anyway. But yeah cool anyway.
Modena is sweet. There's lots of Africans. Members are cool and stuff. The bishopric here is super multi-cultural. Bishop is Italian. the 1st counselor is Peruvian and the 2nd is from Ghana and is like 28 years old. So you have all parts in the bishopric which is awesome.
My new companion is Anz. Larson. He's from Washington/Utah. As in he was born in Washington and has lived in Utah since he was like 6. He's cool and all. He's on BYU's ballroom dance team and he's been doing tons of different type of sweet dances since he was like 11 or 12. Pretty cool. He's trying to start up a dance class here in Modena to maybe find some cool people to teach dance to and eventually get them to have interest in the Church. That'll be fun.
Hmmmm other things.... Not much has happened here. One of the young guys from Milano, where I started my mission moved down to Modena. His name is Diego, so he is in the ward here now. That's cool. Besides that nothing. Sorry for the lack of pictures. The week has been a tad hectic because Anz. larson and I are both new to the area, so we have to figure everything out on our own.
So something I've been thinking about a lot lately is light, the principles and laws of light and everything about light. So in D&C 50:24, it says that everything from God is light. That's a pretty straightforward definition. I love it. So recently there's been a lot of negativity around for various reasons and I hate negativity. Just people finding only bad things in others and being really prideful and not seeing their own faults and just a bunch of chaos really. Love is from God. Love is light. Where there is light, there cannot be darkness. That is a law of physics and a celestial law in and of itself.
So basically what I want to get to is this. This world is filled with darkness is so many forms, especially in hate. Satan does whatever he can to make us find those little things to be sad or unhappy about when in reality, there is a huge fountain of light right in front of us, but we are so blind and distracted that we can't even see it. And it's sad. Really sad. So often we miss the silver lining, the light of God's love because we're so caught up on the little blotches of darkness in front of us.
People. This is life. God didn't just throw us into a pit of darkness. He wouldn't do that. There is light all around us in so many forms, we just have to open our eyes and look for it. Look for the good in people instead of the bad. That is being pure in heart like Christ said we should be, finding the godliness, the divine potential of those around us. Even if your life in miserable and you feel like you have nothing, I promise you that you're wrong. You have everything and it's all right in front of you. You've just got to open your eyes to it. You have a reason to be here. You have people who love. You are a child of God and that means everything.
There is negativity everywhere but there is more positivity in the end. Fear not; for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. That is a prophetic promise to those who follow Christ from the prophet Elisha. In 2 Kings 6, if you do as Elisha did and pray to have your eyes opened, Heavenly Father will open your eyes to the thousands and thousands of horses and chariots of fire surrounding you in any instant. You are being watched over at all times. Your Heavenly Father loves you.
This is my testimony, that God is not just some higher power, just a body-less being in the sky, but He is a father, He is our father and he loves us with an infinite love that we cannot comprehend. Out of all names and titles He could have commanded us to call Him, He asked us to call Him father. That is how much He loves us. Never forget His love for you. It is immense.
