He is from a small town called Sweethome, Oregon. Cool guy. He's done just about everything. I'd say his forte is the outdoors. He knows just about everything having to do with the outdoors. Pretty incredible stuff. He worked as a mechanist before coming out here and he wants to study mechanical engineering, so he's always fixing stuff and making things around the house hahahah. It's hilarious.
That's that. This week has also been normal like the past few weeks. Christian is still missing... Don't even want to talk about that... But yeah anyway. This guy who came to church, Roberto is still really legit. This week he is a bit busy so he can't meet us, but we met with him like 4 times in a week so that was sweet. He's awesome and asks incredible questions. He stumps me multiple times in every lesson hahahhaa. Great guy. We'll be talking to him about baptism very soon. Besides that Gianni is doing great. He has a baptismal date for 24 of June, which is a Wednesday, the birthdate of John the Baptist, and Gianni's birthday. So that's going to be a really cool day. I'm excited for that. That's the work for now.
So I've been studying the Book of Mormon a lot recently to really find all the little things in there. Lately I've been reading in Alma 37 and 38. Just some cool things I got from those chapters. So here Alma is speaking first to his son Helaman, then to his son Shiblon.
While speaking to Helaman, he talks about the things Helaman should teach the people and says to teach them to have "an everlasting hatred against sin and iniquity." Then Alma gives him a list of principles to teach to help the people in gaining this everlasting hatred against sin and iniquity. In verse 33 and 34 he tells Helaman to teach repentance, faith, humility, meekness, withstanding temptations with faith, serving others through good works, and being meek and lowly in heart. If we strive to do all of these things, we will develop this hatred toward sin and iniquity.
Alma continues in verses 36 and 37 on how we should pray.
1. Cry unto God for ALL thy support.
2. Let all thy doings be unto the Lord
3. Wherever you go let it be in the Lord
4. Let all your thoughts be directed to the Lord
5. Let the affection of your heart be placed upon the Lord
6. Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings
7. At night, lie down unto the Lord
8. In the morning, let thy heart be full of thanks.
And the blessing we receive after doing all this is being lifted up at the last day.
In verse 38 to 40, Alma speaks of Lehi and his family and the guidance the received through the Liahona. We each have our own personal Liahona in these days. That is our patriarchal blessing. It will guide us and lead us along the straight and narrow pathway and we follow in faith. Verse 44 is a bit sad for me. It reads,
"For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land."
We also have a Liahona in the word of Christ. The reason this verse is sad is because it is just as easy for us now to follow the word of Christ as it was for Lehi and his family to follow the Liahona, yet we still don't do it a lot... But there is hope. As we follow the word of Christ, that is the scriptures, they will, "carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise." Though it may be difficult a lot of the time, I know for a fact this is true. The word of Christ will carry anyone beyond their own personal vale of sorrow and into a far better land of promise. I've seen it many times, especially in my own life.
Alma says something very similar to this to his other son Shiblon. He says, "as ye shall put your trust in God even so much ye shall be delivered out of your trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and ye shall be lifted up at the last day." So not only must we follow the words of Christ, but more specifically we must trust God, which makes sense.
And this all just made me think of this Mormon Message about a talk given by President Eyring a few years ago. Really great video.
God will make our burdens light. He will deliver. I know without a doubt in my mind that is true. I have seen in happen countless times in my life and the lives of others. The Atonement has an unexplainable healing and enabling power. Heavenly Father leads and guides the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints through a living prophet, called by God Himself, ordained and set apart through the restored Priesthood authority given by Christ to Peter, James, and John and then given to Joseph Smith centuries ago. Joseph Smith then, through that same authority and power of God, translated the Book of Mormon and restored to its original state, the Church of Jesus Christ. Our Father in Heaven has an unimaginable amount of love for each and every one of us. There are no "too late's" or lost causes. He loves us and that is amazing. He has done everything for us and continues to do even more every single day. I invite you all to always remember and seek to know more fully that which Alma spake of to his son Shiblon in verse 9 of the 38th chapter of the book of Alma.
"There is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness."
