Week 23 - Let us run with PATIENCE the race that is set before us. (Hebrews 12:1)

Ciao peeps.

I'm doing great. My feet are still so so. We shall see how they turn out after 2 years. I might not have toes. Who knows. (Rhymes. Yeah.)

So my sister has asked me about a good day I've had. Hmm.... Those don't happen often. That is a joke. They happen every day.

I'd say yesterday was a pretty solid day. We started the day off visiting our friend Edison. He's from Peru and he's super awesome. He was hit by a bus 2 years ago and now has some brain issues, so we go every week and share a spiritual thought with him. Then we got a call from Michele, a man from Sicilia. He's incredible... But very crude at the same time... He swears a lot... But HE WILL BE BAPTIZED! Eventually. Not sure when. He won't accept a date because he feels like that would be condemning himself to failure... Who knows. But he gave us presents for some reason... He wouldn't not let us take them.... So I now have a Georgio Armani jacket.... yeah....

So yeah.... It's awesome.

After that we taught Juan, who I absolutely love and he will also be baptized! Hopefully on the 8th of November... His new date. We shall see... But yeah. That was my day. Fun junk woo!

(Ben didn't write what that bug photo is, so...????)

So I've been studying the Christlike attribute of Patience lately. And I wanted to share this all with you today. Because it's important :)

So yeah patience. According to Preach my Gospel, patience is this:
- the capacity to endure delay, trouble, opposition, or suffering without becoming angry, frustrated, or anxious.
- it is the ability to do God's will and accept His timing.
- When you are patient, you hold up under pressure and are able to face adversity calmly and hopefully.

So obviously we confront lots of trial and tribulation in life. It's important to understand the connection between that and patience. In Romans 5:3 it talks about how tribulation works patience. In James 1:3-4 it talks about how trials of faith work patience and then in James 1:5, the famous scripture that Joseph Smith read, it says that if we ask, it will be given. So in Alma 31:31, we have to ask for patience just like Alma did. That's so important. We can literally ask God for anything and he will give it to us. So ask for help being patient :) It's an important attribute.

So mid-race, what's going on. There is a quote from President Monson from a while back about patience that says, " Life is full of difficulties, some minor and other of more serious nature. There seems to be an unending supply of challenges for one and all. Our problem is that we often expect instantaneous solutions to such challenges, forgetting that frequently the heavenly virtue of patience is required." We so often want things immediately. We want to know what to do next, what step to take, immediately. It doesn't work that way. We have to ask, and SEEK, and be patient, THEN we will receive. We often forget the patience aspect to receiving answers to our prayers.

Patience is also very important in overcoming sin and weakness. A quote from Elder Holland reads, "It is a plain and very sobering truth that before great moments, certainly before great spiritual moments, there can come adversity, opposition, and darkness. It isn't over until it's over." It is so so so SO true. So often we face trials right before moments, very spiritual moments. I've seen it here with those who are about to make the covenant of baptism with their Heavenly Father. That week before baptism is filled with trial and tribulation. It is not over until it is over. Remember that. There are so many scriptures I have found having to do with being patient and enduring to the end, but I have had two favorites on this topic for a very long time.
2 Nephi 2:1-2
1 And now, [insert your name here], I speak unto you: Thou art my firstborn in the days of my tribulation in the wilderness. And behold, in thy childhood thou hast suffered afflictions and much sorrow, because of the rudeness of thy brethren.
2 Nevertheless, [insert your name here], my firstborn in the wilderness, thou knowest the greatness of God; and he shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain.
Every pain, affliction, and time of sorrow you go through, God will consecrate that experience, that pain and sadness for your gain. It all has to do with how He is helping you grow into the BEST you. Let Him help you. Don't push God away when times are rough. Pull Him closer. You need Him.
D&C 122:7
7 And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SCRIPTURE!!!!!! Oh my wow. It's a hefty one. THE VERY JAWS OF HELL CAN GAPE OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!! And still, God will take that seemingly awful, terrifying experience, and make you a better person because of it. Remember that. God never leaves you alone. Regardless of the mistakes you've made in the past, regardless of how Christlike you are, regardless of everything, He DOES NOT leave you alone. You are a child of God and He has an incomprehensible love for you.

Everything that happens in your life happens for a reason. I've seen it very evidently in my life. Every place you go, everyone person God throws in your life, every experience you have, everything. He uses everything around you to slowly mold you into the person who wants you to be. Let Him. Don't fight it. He knows what's best for you.

I love you all. God loves you all.
Don't worry be happy.
Run the race in front of you with PATIENCE :)
Have a great week!
